Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a prototype autoimmune disease characterized by multisystem involvement, affecting the joints, skin, kidneys, nervous system, blood, eyes, and more. While it is not considered rare, awareness of this disease remains low in India. It primarily affects young females of reproductive age, leading to significant morbidity and mortality. Typical symptoms include a butterfly rash across the malar area of the face, hair loss, and arthritis. Nephritis is a common complication that requires aggressive treatment. With advancements in diagnostic methods and therapies, managing SLE has become much easier than in the past. However, many unmet needs still exist in the care and treatment of this disease.
