Sargazo en el Gran Caribe

SATsum-Collect es un proyecto de ciencia ciudadana para registrar observaciones con fotos y videos sobre la presencia y acumulación de sargazo pelágico en el Golfo de México y el Mar Caribe, tanto en la costa (playas, litoral rocoso y manglares) como flotando en el mar. La información recolectada apoya la toma de decisiones sobre recolección y disposición final del sargazo y contribuye a validar el sistema satelital de alerta temprana SATsum del SIMAR (https://simar.conabio.gob.mx/sargazo/#satsum). Es un desarrollo de CONABIO (México) en colaboración con el CIM de la Universidad de La Habana, el Instituto de Ciencias del Mar y Limnología de la UNAM y la FIU.

SATsum-Collect is a citizen science project that records observations with photos and videos of the presence and accumulation of pelagic sargassum in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea, both on the coast (beaches, rocky shores, and mangroves) and floating in the sea. The collected information supports decision-making regarding sargassum collection and disposal and contributes to validating the SIMAR SATsum early warning satellite system (https://simar.conabio.gob.mx/sargazo/#satsum). It is a CONABIO (Mexico) project developed in collaboration with the CIM of the University of Havana, the Institute of Marine Sciences and Limnology of UNAM, and FIU.
