During the fall Chum salmon run at Carkeek Park, volunteers from the Carkeek Watershed Community Action Project (CWCAP) periodically walk up Piper's Creek and Venema Creek to survey returning salmon. Live fish are counted and left alone. Dead fish are measured and cut open to determine spawning success. The survey is an opportunity to gather data but also a way to bring education outdoors for park visitors.
Performed in cooperation with Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
