Survey methodology:
Survey 1 – phenology.
To record first appearance - in the early months of each year , surveyors should carry out searches during suitable low Spring-tides, at Washing Ledge and The Flats. If any Peacock’s Tail is found it should be photographed and saved in a file named with the date of the survey. This should be carried out until fronds have appeared at both sites.
This survey should be conducted monthly from January in order to record the earliest appearance of the species each year. NO SURVEY FORM REQUIRED.
To record disappearance - from late October onwards, the same survey should seek to record the last appearance of Padina before it dies back for winter.
