Project 2: Recreation Enhancement / Invasive Species Control (Adviser: Sigrid Resh)
Location: Various, including portage between Little Bass Lake and Big Bass Lake, hiking trail between
Drake Lake and Crescent Lake, picnic area near Trout Lake, and road system
Club members are interested in enhancing recreation opportunities throughout the property. In particular, they are interested in options for improving the ability to portage small boats (kayaks, canoes, etc.) between inland lakes. They are also interested in additional hiking trails to access to seldom-visited areas. This project will also focus on enhancing communication of current recreational opportunities available while recommending opportunities for enhancing recreation on the property.
Because recreation is often a vector for spreading invasive species, students assigned to this project will assess the presence, abundance, and threat of invasive species in and around current high-use areas. Students will make recommendations for controlling the spread of invasive species for the entire property as well as for any new trails or portage areas.
