This project includes a survey of geological features noticed while wandering about in the desert and forest. I spend most of my time in the Sonoran Desert near the Lower Salt River Recreation Area and Mesa Ranger District of the Tonto National Forest. The most interesting geological features in my home area are associated with tertiary period volcanics. These include: mafic extrusions, basalt and silicic lavas and vast layers of volcanic tuff associated with the Superstition Volcanic Complex. These volcanics left numerous types of rocks and minerals scattered throughout the area.

Please forgive any errors in identification. I'll strive to improve the accuracy as I receive feedback or improve my competence.
