The streams and lakes of Southwest Australia are home to unique flora and fauna, but they are at risk from land use change and climate change. To help us better track their health citizen scientists like you can simply record images of water levels and water quality. For example, we can tell if water is high or low, present or absent, and clear or turbid. Remember, even recording a dry stream bed is super useful as it tells us where surface water is permanent, seasonal or rare. It can also be a useful source of information for users of walking and cycling trails to keep them updated about conditions.
How does it work? Open the epicollect5 app. Select the Ephemeral project. Add an Entry and follow the instructions. When selecting Location you may have to repeat a couple of times until the accuracy is less than 10 m. It will work offline, and you can wait to upload the data you collected when you get back to service or from your home wifi.
