Goa is suffering from drinking water shortages every summer for the last few years. Even though Goa receives some of the highest monsoon rains in the country most of the water is washed away to the sea. Lack of awareness amongst the citizens only adds to the crises.

‘‘Bhu Jal Sanvardhan’ is an important water resource management initiative by team Dhavrukh looking at the need for water conservation. Rainwater harvesting has been acclaimed as an exemplary method of water conservation, and is considered to be a “Green Practice”. It involves the collection of rainwater from rooftops or other hard surfaces above the ground level prior to its loss as surface run-off. This method of water conservation indirectly supports the replenishment of groundwater and compensates for the exhaustion of non-potable water. Under the initiative, Dhavrukh aims at making the community aware of the importance of water resource management by demonstrating water conservation techniques, installation of groundwater recharging plants, orientation sessions, conducting experiments, and exploring water resource management techniques.
