To report dusk emergence counts from bat houses in the Cayman Islands.
Method:
1. Start the survey 15 minutes before scheduled sunset. Note the start time. Conditions should be optimal; do not survey in rain or heavy winds. You will need a mechanism of tallying bats (such as a clicker counter) and recording data.
2. Start the tally when the first bat emerges.
3. Bats may return to the bat house before all of the bats have emerged for the night. Keep a mental tally of the number of bats that return and do your best not to double count them as a new emerging bat.
4. Finish the survey when no new bats emerge or there is no visibility. Note the finish time and final bat count.
5. Leave the site safely.
