The World Health Organisation defines quality of life as “an individual's perception of his/her position in circumstances of the culture and values in which he or she lives and with respect to his/her goals, expectations, principles and concerns. Body image disturbance is the result of social values emphasizing vitality and physical appearance and fitness. Therefore, amputation may be seen as a sign of failure. Amputees have to adapt physically, socially, and psychologically to alterations in structure, function, and body image.Self-esteem is a positive or negative orientation toward oneself: an overall evaluation of one's worth or value. Self-esteem encompasses beliefs and emotions such as triumph, despair, pride and shame.
This study aims to analyse the impact of usage of exoskeletal prosthesis on self esteem and quality of life of patients who have transtibial amputations.
