Family Adoption Programme – Govt. Pudukkottai Medical College

The Family Adoption Programme (FAP) is a community-based initiative mandated by the National Medical Commission (NMC) to enhance undergraduate medical education. Each MBBS student adopts 3–5 families from nearby rural areas and maintains regular contact over the course of their training. Through periodic visits, students assess health status, promote hygiene, provide health education, and refer individuals for medical care when needed. This hands-on learning fosters empathy, improves communication skills, and strengthens the doctor–patient relationship. Supervised by the Department of Community Medicine, the programme bridges the gap between healthcare services and underserved populations. It also contributes to preventive care and community health awareness.
